Facial Aesthetics
Wrinkle Reduction
Wrinkles and frown lines develop as a result of using facial muscles repeatedly throughout a lifetime, with the skin creasing in areas of greatest use. Added to this, the ageing process causes the slow down of collagen and elastin production in the skin, so that as we get older these lines become permanent and are present even when we are not frowning or expressing ourselves. By reducing the movement of muscles in these areas through the use of Botulinum, the skin temporarily stops being creased and is allowed to recover, causing the lines to soften or even fade away. In the areas treated, the muscles are temporarily inactivated (this is always reversible), during which time the patient can even break the subconscious habit of over-using these muscles. But there are simple, safe, effective procedures that reduce their appearance; boosting your confidence and making you feel younger.
Depending on each individual and the dose used, the response to treatment can vary from slight relaxation of the muscle to minimal movement.
For the procedure, itself the dentists will inject minimal amounts of Botulinum into carefully and selected and meticulously recorded sites. This happens during a short appointment that can even be timed around your lunch break or a playdate and we always follow this appointment with a review meeting after 2 weeks. Depending on the how happy we all are with the area treated and how you respond to Botulinum you may have a top-up at this meeting. The effects usually last for 4-6 months.
Dermal Fillers
Dermal Fillers are used to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and folds. They can be used to plump up your lips, increase cheek volume or remove hollows. They can also be used to reshape your nose or soften ugly scarring. Dermal fillers are made from a variety of materials and the effects can be either temporary or permanent, depending on the type of filler.
At Matford Dental Clinic we have qualified practitioners that perform professional dermal filler treatment, giving you just the look you want. We will take care of you, advising you on which type of filler is best for you and ensuring your treatment is effective and safe.
During your treatment, the practitioner injects the filler and the area is gently massaged. Some treatments require the application of a local anaesthetic cream while some solutions contain an anaesthetic, which makes the treatment more comfortable. The treatment time can vary between 30 minutes to an hour.
Afterwards the area may be a little swollen, red and tender for 24 hours. Occasionally a bruise may last for up to four days.
